Intro by Deacon Rafael

In this new year of the Lord, and in my first year as a newly ordained deacon, I am beloved. I believe

in One Life, One Death and One Judgement in the Name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit..

On Easter Sunday, the disciples were walking when Jesus appeared to them, yet they did not recognize Him. Like the disciples on the road to Emmaus, they encountered a stranger who seemed unaware of the terrible events that has just taken place. It is much like the people around us today, those sitting beside us in the pews, or those who pass us on a busy city street, unaware, or perhaps untouched, by what Christ has done.

"Are you the only one who has not heard," the disciples ask, "of Jesus who was crucified at Calvary?" And the stranger responds by revealing what had been hidden from their understanding: that the Messiah had to suffer, and that all of this was already written and structured within the teachings of Scripture. "Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into His glory?"

This moment is the Liturgy of the Word. Moved by the conversation, they invite the stranger to stay with them,to rest, and to share a meal. As they sat at table, the stranger took bread, blessed it, and broke it, and in that moment, their eyes were opened. Through the breaking of the bread, they recognized Him as the risen Christ.and establish the second part of our Universal Church through the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
